My name is Aliyah Laureano, I’m from Harlem New York and my joy and passion is my brand Rare selections, rare selections is rare pieces in limited selections and this is just the beginning. I aspire to continue my talents with drawing, painting, pottery, styling, and furniture design in the near future but as for now, designing clothes is what I love to do. When getting dressed I feel you should always have a statement piece, something that makes you stand out, makes you memorable, expresses who you are and a glimpse of your character. I pride my brand on attention to detail. My clothes are ready to wear designs, luxury clothing that makes one dream. Timeless collectibles and quality garments. I make art that you can wear, each piece is carefully crafted and thought out. It started with me just looking in my closet one day and simply just wanted something different to wear, I don’t follow the traditional direction or mentality of fashion, I make whatever I want, and believe that true art takes time, the people need to see and feel the essence of true design again, clothing that you look at and your amazed at the mind of the artist who came up with this. That’s how I use to feel and I had to bring that feeling back through my art, I refer to my clothing as art because every detail matters. I graduated the high school of fashion industries in 2016 and that’s where i learned to use a sewing machine prior to that I use to make pouches with my grandmas sewing needles and knitting needles. I graduated fashion institute of technology in 2022 majoring in fashion business management, but took 3 semesters in interior design. I’ve realized that I’m a multidisciplinary artist and it wasn’t until recently when I tried to stop fighting it, I always thought I needed to box myself into one thing and focus only on that, but that’s not true at all. I am living and existing as an artist, I live my life through creativity and that’s what fuels me to keep going. My family , neighborhood, and surroundings have made me who I am today, the culture and the confidence to just be who you are and represent that to the fullest. Rare selections is going to be so much more then just clothes because it’s the story and the journey of all things creativity. One day I want to have an art exhibition where I hang up all my clothes in a frame like a painting and have people walk through and look at all my designs displayed as art work and see fashion through a new lens. Throughout black history fashion has been a form of freedom and self expression, and I’m here to continue that message and bring light to young black creatives to continue to spread love through there art and designs, and inspire, uplift and motivate everyone around you. I know I’ve been on a rant here but to some everything up Rare selections is industrial fashion, inspired by raw and rugged materials of our everyday world executed into high fashion. I love what I do and can’t wait to showcase my art to the world.
